I’m trying to understand how these outdoor wall lights function but can’t seem to get a grip on their operation.
If your light stays on as it should, the driver and LEDs are likely fine. The issue might be with your controller, as that model doesn’t come with a built-in photocell. You might need to look into replacing the control unit, possibly the photocell part.

Exactly, the automatic controller seems to function properly, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to control it manually.
If the controller is electronic and not a mechanical timer, you could try turning off the power at the circuit breaker to reset it.
It’s possible there’s another photocell or switch/controller hidden somewhere unusual. It sounds like the fixture may have been connected to the nearest available power source without much thought. A good approach would be to get some help and start testing the circuit breakers to track down how it’s wired.
