How to make this light softer/more glow

I have these nightstand lights and want to make the light softer and create a glow effect to make the room more relaxing. Currently, I’m using a low-watt Edison-style bulb, but it isn’t achieving the desired effect.

Is there a way to modify or adjust it without replacing the fixture?

The issue is the concentrated lumen output from a thin filament in the bulb. Dimming might help but could reduce brightness too much. To distribute the light evenly, consider etching the glass or adding a shade. Physics limits the options, but good luck!

I thought about frosting the glass. Your explanation is helpful; thank you!

Check out Technology Connections on YouTube for a DIY milk glass effect tutorial. Here’s the link: https://youtu.be/ed8QTKtLxKs?si=rM_uOuXRi-vOQlde

Thanks! I love this idea.

Try using a low-power frosted LED bulb and place diffusion paper inside the glass.

Add an inline dimmer like model 00423-753.

Spread some gel for diffusion. Be creative to keep it visually appealing.

A simple solution: wrap butter paper around the bulb.

Vellum or tracing paper can also work. Cut it to size and place it along the inner wall of the glass.

Fill the glass container with glass marbles.

Line the inside of the glass with vellum paper for a softer glow.
