How would you light this barrel vaulted hallway?

Wall sconces

Mud-in linear LED cove lighting profiles running the length of the hallway. Lighting shines up, makes the vault look taller and produces shadowless indirect light. You won’t see the light source or even a break in the wall plane. -I’m a lighting designer

This will look great (assuming you’re proposing LED tape in an extrusion right?) but the problem is once it gets older, sections of it will start to discolor and possibly blink. You’d have to replace the whole length of tape at that point, which isn’t necessarily the end of the world but it is something to be aware of. What do you think about the same idea but with low profile LED T5 fixtures end to end or staggered?

@Kiran
fair point… but there is a vast difference in quality/longevity between what tapes are marketed on Amazon and AliExpress vs proper thermally-managed architecturally-specified 50k hour rated tapes. There is a lot to give up using T5 retrofits (inferior dimmability, color accuracy, bulky form factor compared to tape) for the sake of easy replacement. FWIW, if a portion of quality tape fails for any reason, a pro can very easily splice and solder in a new section.

Can you pls explain to me like I’m stupid how you won’t see a light source or break in wall.

I did, hence the “stupid” part.

I’m sorry, I can’t teach you with words how to visualize something when pictures aren’t making it click for you.

u/fognyc I could use your help on a recessed lighting purchase. I tried to DM you, hoping you got it

I looked at the pictures and as far as I can tell none of the “usage examples” resemble what you described.

I’ve used this product (along with Full Spectrum tunable tape light) in a similar hallway. I’m a lighting specialist.

For wall sconces:

Artemide Piano if minimal, Lasvit Cipher if fancy or Moooi Perch if you’re feeling playful.

I would start with a picture rail, with a colour temp adjustable led strip. Would be completely adequate. You could add wall sconces, and or pendants.

Add 100 outlets and put nightlights in them all

Hear me out, and the advice given so far is very good.

But… gothic wrought iron chandeliers with candle-like lamps! :smiling_imp:.
Don’t care if you’re entertaining hobbits or dragons. This is the answer for such a hallway!
