Looking for a super bright floor lamp… any suggestions?

I have a small office with no overhead lighting and need a floor lamp that’s really bright. I’m looking for something similar to those old halogen lamps from the 90s (minus the fire hazard). Any recommendations for something bright and reliable?

I recommend this one for its ambient and task lighting: Latitude Run® Jernell 70" LED Dimmable Torchiere & Reading Floor Lamp with Remote Control & Reviews | Wayfair. Another option is getting a floor lamp with a screw-in bulb and using the brightest LED bulb it can handle. Multiple light sources also help reduce shadows and improve brightness.

@Ben
Thanks! I have something similar, but it’s not quite bright enough. Do you remember those black halogen lamps from the 90s? Those lit up a room like crazy but were a fire hazard. Is there anything as bright as those?

@Rory
For your office, you can try an LED bulb with around 7,000–8,000 lumens. It’s super bright! Just check the wattage capacity of your lamp to make sure it can handle it. Also, halogens usually have a 3000K color temperature, so look for something similar in LED form.

@Ben
It might be the bulb I need to replace. Can you recommend a bulb that would fit a standard floor lamp? Also, hilarious username by the way!

Haha, thanks! Check your lamp for a sticker near the socket to see its wattage limit. Here’s a great option: CA New Sunshine 40W Led Corn Light Bulb(300W Equivalent) 5000lm 3000K Warm White E26/E27 Base Ceiling Fan Led Light Bulbs for Garage Backyard Warehouse Indoor Outdoor Led Corn Bulb - Amazon.com. If your lamp can handle it, here’s another brighter option: NS 2 Pack 70W G25 LED Corn Light Bulbs, 8800 Lumens, 3000K Warm White, E26/E39 Base, Ideal for Home, Garden, Garage, Backyard, Street, Office, Warehouse, Workshop, High Bay, and Gym Lighting - Amazon.com.

What did you end up getting? I miss those old halogen lamps too.

I got these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C1YX524Y. They’re super bright and just what I needed!

@Rory
What lamp are you using with those? Does it direct the light upwards like a torchiere?

I’ve been using this lamp for years, and it’s fantastic. Just ordered one for my husband too: Search Result - Hammacher Schlemmer.

I think they’re looking for a lamp that points upwards to brighten the whole room. Did you mean the second one on the page?

Would this work? STERREN 77" LED Floor Lamp for Office, 7350LM Dimmable Eye-Care Standing Piano Lamp,70W Tall Reading Light, 4000K Bright Lighting for Living Room - White - Amazon.com.

You might want to focus on bright bulbs rather than the lamp itself. Also, consider what type of shade you prefer.

I used 4 IKEA lamps with 150W equivalent Cree 90 CRI bulbs for a similar need. Bright and diffuse lighting! I also considered a Medusa lamp with 5 bulbs but never got around to it.

I’m actually working on a lamp for this exact purpose! https://getbrighter.co/. It’s a 50,000-lumen floor lamp (compared to the usual 2,000–3,000 lumens). It’s super bright but safe from catching fire!

@Roan
When will it be available?

This sounds great. What room size and ceiling height is it best for?
