Outdoor Recessed Lighting with Motion Sensors: Any Recommendations?

Hey all,

I’m on the hunt for some outdoor recessed lighting that has motion sensors, but I need the motion to trigger multiple lights at once. I’ve got four bulbs on my back porch, and I’d really love for all of them to light up when any motion is detected. Bonus if there’s a way to switch between motion detection and just standard on/off. Appreciate any help in advance!

Hey! You could probably use smart bulbs with a central hub (like a smart home system). Once one detects motion, it can trigger the others to turn on. Philips Hue has some options that might work for what you need!

I second the smart bulb idea. Lutron Caseta switches also work great for this, and you can control multiple bulbs at once. Plus, you can easily switch between motion-sensing and manual control.

Have you looked into motion sensors that connect directly to a central relay or control unit? That way, all your lights can be triggered at once. Home Depot or Lowe’s should have some outdoor-rated options!

You might want to look at floodlight sensors that have wide coverage. Some models are capable of triggering multiple lights, and a lot of them come with a manual override for regular on/off usage

Leviton makes some nice outdoor motion sensors that can be hardwired to control multiple fixtures. They’re pretty reliable, and they give you the option to switch between manual control and motion activation.
