Replacing Wafers Without Changing Drivers? Need Advice!

Hey all, I remodeled my house last year and installed these wafer lights. It’s been a little over a year, and I’ve already had to replace 5 of the 14 lights. The drivers seem to be working fine, but the wafers keep burning out. I’m thinking about swapping them all out with a better brand. Is it possible to just replace the wafers without touching the drivers? I really don’t want to mess with the drivers because I’ve got blown-in insulation up in the attic and I don’t want it going everywhere! Appreciate any advice!

Yeah, you can usually swap out the wafers with a different brand as long as the voltage and wattage match the drivers. I’d definitely go with a higher-quality brand. Just double-check the specs first so you don’t end up with a mismatch.

Had the same issue in my house a few years ago. I replaced the wafers without touching the drivers, and it worked just fine. Just make sure the new ones are compatible with your existing drivers. Insulation can be a pain, so I get not wanting to mess with that!

I’d recommend contacting the manufacturer of your drivers. They should be able to tell you which wafers are compatible. No need to make a mess in your attic if you don’t have to!

I’ve done this before. As long as the specs line up, you’re good to go. Some brands even make wafers designed to work with multiple types of drivers, so maybe check for that too. Saves you the hassle of pulling out all that insulation.

If your drivers are still in good shape, just swap the wafers! I used Halo wafers with drivers from a different brand, and they’ve been working great for over two years now

I’d say go for a better quality brand like Juno or Halo. They last way longer, and you won’t be replacing them every few months. And yeah, replacing just the wafers is totally doable. No need to touch the drivers unless they’re failing too.
