Upgrading my home and office lighting… full spectrum, flicker-free, circadian rhythm focus

Hi everyone,

I’m planning a major upgrade to the lighting in my home and office. I’m aiming for top-quality products, available in retail across Europe, that focus on full spectrum light, no flicker, and support for circadian rhythms.

After doing some research (and with help from chat GPT), here are the companies I’ve come across:

  • BioLight
  • Ravi Lighting
  • Yuji Lighting
  • SANSI
  • GE Lighting
  • Waveform Lighting
  • Nichia
  • Soraa
  • Tala
  • Lumitech
  • PhotonStar LED
  • Verbatim
  • Philips
  • Uniel
  • LEDMART
  • Bridgelux
  • Seoul Semiconductor (SunLike)
  • Cree Lighting

With a focus on full spectrum, these seem to be the top brands:

  • Seoul Semiconductor
  • Waveform
  • Soraa
  • Yuji Lighting
  • Bridgelux
  • Nichia (Optisolis series)

I’ve narrowed it down to these three options for now:

Waveform Lighting:

Yuji Lighting:

Soraa:

Do you have any other recommendations I might’ve missed? Also, which one of the top 3 do you think is the best?

Any experiences or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot!

Have you thought about hiring a lighting designer? They can make sure your money is spent wisely. I’m only mentioning this because some of your requirements, like ‘0 flicker,’ are really just marketing terms.

@Rex
Yes, but I enjoy understanding and doing things myself .

What makes ‘0 flicker’ a marketing term? I thought it was important for reducing eyestrain, and I know it shows up when filming.

You can’t truly have zero flicker unless your lights are running on a battery or a special power supply. There’s always going to be some ripple. What you’re looking for is lights that meet the IEEE recommendation for being below the ‘No Observable Effects Level’ (NOEL). There’s still flicker, but it’s unnoticeable.

@Rex
Got it! Well, I’ll go for that then .

In that case, aim for lights with PWM frequencies above 3kHz.
