Are dimmable LEDs actually good or just hype?

I’ve had great results with Sylvania smart bulbs. I use them with dimming schedules as an alarm clock. No flickering so far in my setup.

My setup is pricier but works perfectly. I use 24V DC tape lighting with a Waveform Lighting power supply, controlled by a Lutron Caseta ELV+ dimmer. It’s smooth all the way to complete darkness. Let me know if you want details or a demo!

Sounds amazing, but I’ve solved my issue with Philips eye comfort dimmable bulbs. Affordable and effective!

The problem is likely both the dimmer and the bulbs. Cheap dimmers don’t handle the dimming curve well, and most LED bulbs cut off around 10% brightness, even if they claim otherwise. Soraa bulbs are the best for standard use, but for true 0.1% dimming, you’d need something like Ketra, which requires a full Lutron HomeWorks system. It’s a luxury setup and definitely not cheap.

Still hunting for the perfect dimmable LED myself. For recessed lighting, Halo lights are reliable with no flicker but don’t dim low enough. Viribright BR40 bulbs dim low but occasionally flicker. For A19 bulbs, Ecosmart color-selectable ones work but are slow to start at low brightness. If anyone finds something that’s high output, dims to near nothing, and is flicker-free, please share!
