Can I replace my kitchen T8 fluorescent tube with a T8 LED tube? Need some advice!

I bought an LED tube that includes a starter, but my existing fitting doesn’t have a slot for a starter.

Can I still use this LED tube safely? I’ve read a lot about starters and rewiring ballasts, but it’s a bit overwhelming. Just looking for some straightforward guidance here!

Thanks so much in advance!

It sounds like you’re looking for a Type A LED retrofit tube. Type A means it’s compatible with an existing ballast. Alternatively, there are hybrid Type A + B tubes, which work with both ballast connections and mains voltage (after a ballast bypass).

The main thing is to check if your LED tube requires a ballast or a ballast bypass. If it says it needs a ballast, you’re likely good. Just match the correct type of lamp and connection type (ballast or mains).

For Type A (and hybrid tubes), make sure they’re compatible with your ballast; otherwise, it might not work properly.

There’s a QR code on the packaging that leads here:

https://eprel.ec.europa.eu/screen/product/lightsources/1383628?navigatingfrom=qr

It says towards the bottom:
“Claims that an LED light source replaces a fluorescent light source without integrated ballast of a particular wattage - No”

@Yan
That wording is a bit unclear. I’d recommend checking the product’s user manual or website for clearer guidance. The information you need about compatibility should be there.
