Converting Puck Light to Blacklight for Display Shelves

Hello!

I’m designing display shelves for my fiancé’s cube storage, and we currently have a puck light installed to illuminate the shelves. My fiancé now wants to showcase some blacklight Funko Pops and other blacklight items, but the puck light is just a basic one.

Is there a way to turn this puck light into a blacklight? I’ve heard of films that can be applied to regular lights to create a blacklight effect, but I haven’t found anything reliable online. Should I try a DIY approach, or would it be better to replace the puck light with a blacklight bar? I’d prefer to keep the puck light since it matches the setup in adjacent cubes.

I’ve tried the blacklight film, and honestly, it’s not as effective as a real blacklight. You might get a slight glow, but it won’t be strong enough for Funko Pops. A blacklight bar or LED strip might be your best bet…

.Had something like that…I ended up using a small UV LED strip instead of converting the puck light. It was easy to install and gave the perfect blacklight effect for my display. It’s worth considering if you want a strong glow.

You could try getting creative and painting the inside of the puck light cover with blacklight paint. It might look cool, but it’s kind of a gamble. If you want something that’s guaranteed to work, replacing the puck light with a blacklight bar might be a better bet.

To get the best effect from UV active items, it’s ideal to place them in a dark enclosure that blocks most visible light. The UV sources should have visible light filters to enhance the glow. What’s your budget like? Here’s a helpful guide and a reputable supplier you might want to check out: Waveform Lighting.

I agree with others—blacklight conversion films don’t work well. Swapping out the puck light for a small blacklight LED strip is a good solution. Plus, it’s easy to find options that would fit right into the space…I hope this helps
