Need Advice: Martin VDO Fatron 20 Brightness vs Chauvet Well STX 180

Hey all! I’m planning to grab some Martin VDO Fatron 20s (1000mm) for stage setups. Thinking of mixing them with Chauvet Well STX 180 fixtures, depending on what the client wants—sometimes with video walls, sometimes without. For those who’ve used them, how do the Fatrons compare in brightness to the Well STX at full output? Appreciate any input!

I’ve used the Fatron 20s in a couple of projects and they’re pretty solid! In terms of brightness, they definitely hold their own, but the STX 180 at 100% is a beast. If you’re running them side by side, I’d say the Fatron is a little less intense, but the color saturation is superb.

Fatron 20s are great for versatility, but yeah, they don’t quite hit the same brightness as the STX 180. What’s cool is you can play around with placement and they still look amazing. They’re more about the visual effect than raw output in my opinion.

Depends on your application really. The Fatron 20s are killer for mid-size stages, but if you need serious punch, the STX 180 still wins. That said, the Fatrons work well with video walls since they don’t overpower the content.

I’d say the Fatrons are better if you’re going for a balance between brightness and aesthetic. STX 180s can sometimes feel overpowering. If you need something that complements the overall design, the Fatrons are a good choice.

Ran a gig with both recently! Honestly, the brightness difference is noticeable, but if you’re not relying solely on the Fatron 20s for illumination, you should be fine. They’re awesome for adding depth and layers to the setup.

The Well STX 180 blows the Fatrons out of the water in terms of brightness, no question. But Fatrons are more flexible. I’ve used them with video walls and they’re subtle enough not to distract, which is a plus
