Need More Light Above My Shower!

Hey everyone,

I’m having a bit of trouble with the lighting in my shower. The ceiling is cement with popcorn texture, and there’s an air vent right next to it. I’m renting the place, so I can’t do anything too drastic.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get more light in there without making major changes? I’ve thought about adding a small light fixture, but I’m not sure if that would be possible with the ceiling type.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there!

Since you’re renting, a temporary solution might be best. Have you considered adding a small, portable LED light fixture? You can find these at most hardware stores. Just make sure it’s designed for damp locations. You could also try using a reflective surface, like a small mirror, to bounce more light into the shower…I think this might help.

One option is to use command strips to attach a small, battery-powered light fixture to the ceiling . Just make sure the strips are rated for heavy-duty use and that the fixture is lightweight.

Remember to check with your landlord before making any changes…It might bring some issues
Aight…good luck

If you’re not aiming for perfection, installing a recessed light above the showerhead that activates with the exhaust fan is a cost-effective option. Alternatively, you might consider replacing the exhaust fan trim with a lighted version, depending on the brand and dimensions.

You could try using flexible extenders, but a better option might be something like the Beyond Bright garage lights you can find at Home Depot, Ace, or Amazon. They’re super practical and can really brighten up a space. What I like is that the panels can be angled to direct the light where you need it—I use one in my attic, and it works great.

However, they might not fit well in a recessed area since the base that screws into the socket isn’t very long. Also, keep in mind that in a steamy bathroom, moisture could be an issue with these lights.

This might sound silly…but…Try using a clear or frosted shower curtain instead. It’s a simple change that can really brighten up the space!
